Workers’ Compensation Defense
Thomas P. Vecchio was born in Olean, New York, where he graduated from high school in 1982. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 from the State University of New York College at Geneseo, where he majored in psychology and became licensed to teach secondary social studies.
Mr. Vecchio graduated from Stetson University College of Law in May 1992, and became licensed to practice law in Florida in October 1992. As a law student, Mr. Vecchio was the recipient of the Wehle Trial Advocacy Award and Best Oral Advocate Award. He was a member of Stetson's ATLA Mock Trial Team that won a state-wide competition in 1991.
Mr. Vecchio's practice has been comprised exclusively of insurance defense litigation, representing carriers in first party property claims, automobile negligence actions and premises liability claims in the state circuit courts. Mr. Vecchio has focused his practice to defense of self-insured employers and workers' compensation carriers in industrial claims before the Judges of Compensation Claims, the First District Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Florida. He is a member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Florida Bar, and has served as a guest lecturer for a continuing adjuster education seminar sponsored by Workers' Compensation Claims Professionals. Mr. Vecchio is a member of the Workers' Compensation and Employment Law Committees of the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Vecchio is also pursuing the CPCU designation conferred by the Insurance Institute of America.
Mr. Vecchio was Board Certified in Workers' Compensation by the Florida Bar in 2002. In 2004, Mr. Vecchio was appointed to serve on the Rules Committee formed by the Division of Administrative Hearings for purposes of drafting and revising the Rules of Procedure for Workers' Compensation Adjudications. Mr. Vecchio was designated Chairman of the Subcommittee on Pre-Trial Procedure, Discovery, and Motion Practice. Mr. Vecchio was appointed to serve on the 2007-08 Workers' Compensation Certification Committee, which is responsible for development, administration, and grading of the Workers' Compensation Board Certification examination.
Mr. Vecchio resides in Lakeland with his wife and three children.
